Jesus Loves Me (by Anna Bartlett Warner) – Original Lyrics

You’ve likely heard the song “Jesus Loves Me” before. It’s been famous since 1862, and many have created their own personal renditions since. Yet sometimes the ORIGINAL is just better! (Smiling) Jesus Loves Me was written by Anna Bartlett Warner (1827-1915, also known as Amy Lothrop), and published in the book “Say and Seal,” in 1859. Anna later published it in her hymanl, “Original Hymns” (told you Original is better!), and a tune to the same was written by William Bradbury in 1862. The chorus was added at this time, and the song became famous worldwide.

I hope you’ll take a moment to read/sing this song to yourself. If you are a Child of God, this song applies to you! If you do not know the Lord as your Father and Savior, He died to bring you to Himself and wash away your sin. He wants you to become His Child, and He always tells His children to “come”!

JESUS LOVES ME

“Jesus loves me—this I know,
For the Bible tells me so:
Little ones to him belong,—
They are weak, but he is strong.

Chorus: (added 1862, William Bradbury)
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me-
The Bible tells me so!

“Jesus loves me,—he who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let his little child come in.

Chorus

“Jesus loves me—loves me still,
Though I’m very weak and ill;
From his shining throne on high
Comes to watch me where I lie.

Chorus

“Jesus loves me,—he will stay
Close beside me all the way.
Then his little child will take
Up to heaven for his dear sake.”

Chorus
